3 Common Mistakes When Asking Tarot About Feelings (and How to Avoid Them)
Questions about someone’s feelings are one of the most common tarot questions I see, and believe me – I get it! We all want clarity. We want to know where we stand and unfortunately, we don’t always get the chance to ask the other person point blank for a multitude of possible reasons. I relate so much that I made it my job to interpret tarot cards and help people understand their situations.
Asking the cards about how someone feels about you sounds simple, but it’s actually one of the trickiest questions ! The challenge, though, isn’t quite what most people think it is.
Because no, asking how someone feels about you isn’t harder than any other question and it also doesn’t take special psychic abilities. The challenge is … you – me – us! The person asking. And that’s where things get interesting. So, let’s start with the biggie:
Mistake No. 1: Asking the Same Question Over and Over
You know that moment when you pull cards, don’t really like or understand the answer and think, Well, maybe I’ll just try again…? Or you’re really heartbroken and pull cards for their feelings everyday, several times a day, every hour? That’s the quickest way to spiral into complete confusion and second-guessing everything.
When you keep asking the exact same question, the energy of the reading gets cluttered. The cards will start contradicting each other, because, how could they not?
What to do instead:
Pause. If the cards don’t make sense right now, take a picture and look at them again tomorrow. They showed up for a reason. Learn more about their meaning and give them a chance to uncover what is going on. Give it time and let your subconscious do the work. And if you have to ask again, vary or even reframe the question. Instead of asking, “How do they feel about me?” try, “What do I feel deep down?”,
Mistake No. 2: Expecting a Definitive Answer
Feelings are fluid. People can feel love toward you and hesitation at the same time. They can be drawn to you but also unsure what to do about it. Feelings can also change quickly. The Four of Cups might appear alongside The Fool for their feelings and you might be thinking – now what? What is that supposed to mean? It means that there is complexity and that, in my experience, the cards will rarely be able to tell you “They love you” or “They don’t”.
What to do instead:
Look at the cards as a snapshot of their current emotional state – the mood of the connection right now. Embrace the nuance and complexity the cards have to offer, even if everything in you is screaming for a definitive answer and clarity. Then ask yourself how that information fits into the bigger picture of your relationship.
Mistake No. 3: Ignoring the Shadow Side of the Answer
It’s tempting to focus on the positive side of a card and skip over anything uncomfortable. But in love readings, especially feelings readings, the shadow side is often where the most useful information hides.
For example, The Lovers can show deep attraction… but also a difficult choice that’s holding them back. The Knight of Cups can mean romantic interest… but also a tendency to get swept up in the fantasy, possibly without the capacity to acknowledge that obstacles are part of every love story.
What to do instead:
Let the positive and the shadow meanings coexist. If there’s hesitation, fear or mixed energy in the reading, acknowledging it gives you a more realistic view of what’s possible – and what might need to shift.
What’s next for you?
Maybe you’ve just realized, “Ah, I’ve been making one (or all 🙈) of these mistakes!” – and now you’re ready to take your readings to the next level. You’re already on the right track, but if you’d like to make things even clearer and easier… I’ve got something exciting coming soon!
